Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Azure, a quill Argent and sword saltirewise interlaced by a pickaxe palewise Proper.  Attached below the shield a Red scroll inscribed PEOPLE SERVICE DUTY in Silver.

Symbolism
Dark blue and scarlet are the colors traditionally used by Personnel Services units.  The quill symbolizes the Battalions mission, while the sword represents total military preparedness.  The pickaxe alludes to California, the units location, and its readiness to serve.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 12 July 1995.
